Wittmer, Courtney Score Top Fives at Mid-Ohio

By Auto News Log • August 9th, 2010

Mopar®-powered Dodge Motorsports driver Kuno Wittmer scored a fourth-place finish in the first half of the Mid-Ohio Grand Prix World Challenge GT Championship event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on Saturday, Aug. 7, while his Woodhouse Performance teammate Jeff Courtney finished out the weekend with a fifth-place showing in the event finale on Sunday.

Wittmer, a Montreal, Québec native, was able to work around Dino Crescentini’s Porsche to finish fourth in his No. 13 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Viper Competition Coupe in the Saturday event opener. Jason Daskalos was close behind in his own Dodge Viper Comp Coupe, earning the sixth spot. Fred Roberts placed his Comp Coupe tenth, with Courtney clocking in at No. 13.

Courtney, of Milwaukee, Wis., had a much better result with his fifth-place showing on Sunday, a season-best finish for the No. 99 Kenda Tires Dodge Viper Comp Coupe driver. Daskalos came home seventh, with Roberts ending his day 20th. Wittmer was running near the front of the field but was forced to retire his Viper Comp Coupe after tangling with a Touring Car and suffering suspension damage, ultimately ending up 38th.

Wittmer remains second in the World Challenge GT Championship point standings. Joining him in the Top 10 are Daskalos (seventh) and Courtney (ninth). Next up the World Challenge Championships will travel to Virginia International Raceway for Rounds 10 and 11, part of the SCCA Pro Racing Sports Car Wars weekend, September 10–12.
