Ron Capps reached his second final round of the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series on Sunday, July 11 at the 23rd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals.

Despite the disappointment of losing to Tim Wilkerson, Capps was pumped up about the progress of his Mopar HEMI-powered NAPA Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car team.

The two were dead even at 60 feet, after Capps launched first by one thousandth of a second, until Wilkerson edged out Capps by approximately six feet with a winning 4.221-second pass at 292.39 mph to Capps’ 4.246/289.51. On his way to his 63rd career final round, Capps defeated Paul Lee, Ashley Force Hood and his Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) teammate Jack Beckman with a 4.245/289.94. He posted the quickest ET in every round, except for the final.

“When we sit back for a minute, we’re going to start looking on the bright side of what went on this weekend,” said Capps. “We moved up in the points a little bit and it’s a crucial time right now.”

The third Mopar-powered DSR team member, Matt Hagan, fell in the semis, losing to Wilkerson. Hagan is third in the Funny Car standings, with Beckman fourth and Capps in seventh. Next up is the 23rd annual FRAM-Autolite Nationals in Sonoma, Calif., July 16–18. For more information on the NHRA, visit
