Mopar Celebrates 30th Mopar Nationals, Names Lars Skroder as ‘Top Eliminator’ Winner

Mopar fans had help from the brand they love in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Mopar Nationals. Event attendees jammed the Mopar Direct Connection Trailer and Mopar display vehicles at hot and steamy National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio, on Aug. 13–15, and the Mopar brand also chose a winner from the Mopar Nationals show car field in its popular “Top Eliminator” program.

Lars Skroder’s Yellow 1971 Plymouth GTX was named the Mopar “Top Eliminator” winner at the Mopar Nationals by a panel of Mopar representatives. Originally from Vancouver, B.C., the Nashville, Tenn. transplant and life-long Mopar fan was convinced at the last minute to bring his immaculate vehicle to the show. Skroder’s GTX was painstakingly restored with numerous Mopar parts, and Skroder saved the parts receipts in a Mopar binder along with photos of the build to document the project.

“It’s unbelievable to be named a Mopar ‘Top Eliminator’ winner,” said Skroder, whose car is one of six Mopar “Top Eliminator” winners that will be displayed in the Mopar Alley at the 2010 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, November 2–5. “My brother and I bought the GTX together back in 1987 when we were 16-years-old. I just recently finished restoring it.”

Mopar fans gamely braved 90-degree temperatures and high humidity to enjoy the Mopar Nationals festivities. Mopar vehicles heating up the already hot display area included the Mopar ’10 Challenger, the first-ever Mopar version of a Chrysler Group LLC vehicle, and the Mopar Direct Connection Test Lab vehicle.

Participants also took part in the popular burnout contest, strapped on helmets to do battle in drag racing action at the National Trail Raceway quarter-mile and strolled the Manufacturer’s Midway to purchase Mopar items on sale. The Mopar logo was ubiquitous, with attendees decked out in a variety of Mopar apparel, including Authentic Mopar Performance Gear purchased from the Mopar Rolling Speedshop.
