Mopar®-Powered Funny Car Driver Beckman Ends Pre-Season Testing with Best Lap

By Auto News Log • February 15th, 2011

Jack Beckman and his Mopar-powered Valvoline Dodge Charger R/T NHRA Funny Car team came to West Palm Beach, Fla., last week for the annual Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) pre-season testing at Palm Beach Raceway looking to put its off-season refinements through their paces. Beckman turned in impressive laps, including race-winning times during side-by-side competition as the session concluded.

The test session closed with the initial PRO Winter Warm-up, two evenings of two side-by-side runs between DSR drivers Beckman, Matt Hagan, Ron Capps and Johnny Gray, all in Mopar-powered Dodge Chargers, as well as other team nitro drivers including John Force, Robert Hight, Brandon Bernstein, Cruz Pedregon and Doug Kalitta.

“Testing is awesome to learn to go quick,” said Beckman, who ran a race-quick 4.053-second lap in his final Winter Warm-up round. “But ultimately we test to race and although it doesn’t count, getting to run with somebody in the other lane was fun. You always want to win, even in qualifying.”

The four Mopar-powered DSR NHRA Funny Car drivers will make their 2011 race debut at the NHRA Winternationals, Feb. 24–27 in Pomona, Calif. For more information on the DSR Funny Car foursome, visit
