Just Driving Through

It’s not every day you see an IZOD IndyCar Series show car parked near the driving range of the Biltmore Golf Club and Resort in Coral Gables, Fla.

With the Indianapolis Colts playing Feb. 7 in Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, you get the connection.

This particular blue and white show car (Colts colors) was at the golf club for the Super Bowl Hall of Fame Players Classic presented by Van Heusen on Feb. 4. The event’s goals are to raise awareness and funds for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinees Assistance Fund, which lends assistance to fellow Hall of Fame Alumni. Ryan Hunter-Reay, driver of the No. 37 IZOD entry for Andretti Autosport, was among the participants.

Three IZOD IndyCar Series show cars are in demand during Super Bowl week for parties and multimedia background shots. So is the Indy Racing Experience street-legal two-seater, which will turn some heads as it shuttles celebrities, NFL players and media members around town.

Also, the Indy Racing League Championship Cup is on display at Eats, Beats and Cleats. The trophy, hoisted by Dario Franchitti at Homestead-Miami Speedway in October, is part of the four-day and night block party on Lincoln Road in downtown Miami. More than 75 current and former NFL All-Stars and other sports legends will be featured as the festival launches with fan experiences and VIP events. The event replaces the mothballed NFL Experience.
