Mopar Dodge Avenger NHRA Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson seized his second-straight No. 1 Qualifier Award but was dealt a first-round exit in eliminations at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals near Reading, Pa. on Sunday, Oct. 10.

Johnson claimed his sixth No. 1 position of the season and 13th of his career in qualifying with a 6.551-second elapsed time at 211.16 mph, drawing Warren Johnson in the opening stanza at Maple Grove Raceway.

Allen Johnson was first off the starting line with a reaction time of .042 (to Warren Johnson’s .052 mark) but went into severe tire shake shortly after takeoff, ending his day. The loss was the first opening-round defeat in eliminations for A.J. this year. Mopar-powered Dodge Avenger pilot V. Gaines also suffered a first-round loss.

Allen Johnson is now fifth in the Countdown to the Championship Pro Stock standings. Next up is the 10th annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Oct. 29–31. For more information, visit
