Hubinette Exits In Top 16 At Road Atlanta

By Auto News Log • May 14th, 2010

Samuel Hubinette drove his Samuel Hubinette Racing (SHR)/Dodge Motorsports Dodge Challenger to a Top 16 finish in the Formula DRIFT Round Two event at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., on Saturday, May 8, knocking off Doug VanDenBrink before losing to defending series champion Chris Forsberg.

Hubinette qualified No. 9 in his Mopar-powered Dodge Challenger in just the second event in his new ride. After dispatching VanDenBrink, the two-time Formula DRIFT champion staged a stout drifting duel with Forsberg. Hubinette followed on the first drift run, sticking his Challenger tight to Forsberg’s Nissan. The “Crazy Swede” led on the second run, and though he pulled away from Forsberg after the horseshoe turn on the Road Atlanta track, the judges called for a “One More Time” (OMT). Hubinette shadowed Forsberg on the first OMT run, ultimately spinning out, leading the judges to advance Forsberg.

“After Atlanta I ended up eighth in the standings overall,” said Hubinette. “Not the direction I wanted to go but overall still a very fun weekend. The Challenger ran flawless. Also, Dodge staged the first-ever free drift ride exhibition, giving attendees free rides in Dodge Chargers and Dodge Challengers on a small drift track. We also raffled off rides with me in my Dodge Challenger; three people got to experience what a real drift car is all about. It was a huge success.”

Next up is the Formula DRIFT Round Three event at Wall Speedway in Wall, N.J., June 4–5. For more info on the Formula DRIFT Series, visit
