Hübinette Ends Season in Top 10 of FD Standings

By Auto News Log • October 12th, 2010

Samuel Hübinette qualified No. 7 and ended his debut season as team owner of the Mopar-powered Samuel Hübinette Racing (SHR) Dodge Motorsports/BFGoodrich Dodge Challenger in tenth-place in the standings following the final 2010 Formula DRIFT event at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway on Oct. 8–9.

Hübinette, who had claimed one No. 1 spot during qualifying this year, at the FD Las Vegas event, had another strong run at Irwindale, posting his Mopar Dodge in the No. 7 spot. The “Crazy Swede” seemed geared up for a run at his first win of the year, only to see his victory hopes dashed when his SHR Dodge Motorsports/BFGoodrich Dodge Challenger caught fire after a fuel line broke during practice prior to the elimination rounds.

Hübinette emerged unscathed but his car suffered damage to the engine bay, ending the SHR Dodge Challenger team’s weekend. Despite the misfortune, Hübinette finished the season in the top 10. Andrew Comrie-Picard, driving the SHR Dodge Viper SRT10®, was unable to qualify for the Top 32 round of eliminations.

“It was a good year overall for the SHR Dodge Motorsports/BFGoodrich Dodge Challenger team,” said Hübinette. “We came in with a new platform, a new car, and managed to finish in the top 10 of the standings. We’ll learn from this, and in the off-season we can dial everything in so we can be even more competitive next year.”
