Hübinette Advances to Top 16 at Wall Stadium

By Auto News Log • June 8th, 2010

Two-time Formula DRIFT (FD) champion Samuel Hübinette drove his Samuel Hübinette Racing (SHR) Dodge Motorsports/BFGoodrich Dodge Challenger to a Top 16 finish in the FD: Round Three The Gauntlet event at Wall Stadium in Wall, N.J. on Saturday, June 5.

Hübinette qualified his Mopar-powered Dodge Challenger No. 13, then drew 2005 FD champion Rhys Millen in the premier matchup of the Top 32 round. The SHR team owner and driver executed two strong drift runs and advanced easily after Millen tapped the wall on one of his two runs. Hübinette matched up with Justin Pawlak in the Top 16. The “Crazy Swede” went at Pawlak hard in two tightly contested tandem drift battles, but ultimately came out on the losing end of the FD judges’ decision. Despite his sooner-than-desired exit, Hübinette maintained his No. 8 spot in the FD point standings.

“The Dodge Motorsports Dodge Challenger performed great all weekend,” said Hübinette. “We’re getting better each race; we keep dialing in the new car more and more at each event. I think we’re close to getting that first podium of the year.”

The SHR team owner also watched his driver, Andrew Comrie-Picard, nicknamed “ACP,” qualify for his first FD main event. Comrie-Picard posted his SHR Dodge Motorsports/BFGoodrich Dodge Viper SRT10® No. 32 in qualifying before falling to Ryan Tuerck in the opening round. “ACP has improved immensely since the first race of the season at Long Beach back in April,” said Hübinette. “We’ll be seeing that more throughout the season, for sure.”

Next up for Hübinette and Picard is the FD Round 4: Throwdown event at Evergreen Speedway in Evergreen, Wash., July 9–10. For more information on Samuel Hübinette, visit http://www.samuelhubinetteracing.com.
