Beauchamp Scores Top-Ten Finish at Motorplex Speedway
Ron Beauchamp and the No. 60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge team were on track for a splendid finish in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event at Motorplex Speedway near Vernon, British Columbia, on Saturday, July 31, until contact with a lapped car led to severe damage to Beauchamp’s Dodge and a tenth-place finish.
Beauchamp excelled during practice, qualifying and the early part of round number six of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Throughout the practice session the No. 60 Mopar Dodge was among the quickest cars and Beauchamp would qualify with the fourth quickest time. But for the second week in a row contact from another competitor took away the Mopar veteran’s opportunity for a significantly better finishing position.
Moving through the second half of the event Beauchamp showed noticeable improvement and was moving forward. However, the No. 60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge team’s fortune would change due to the actions of others.
“The car was coming to me, we were inside the top-ten and moving up,” said Beauchamp. “I was passing a car that was a few laps down through corners three and four and when we were around in corners one and two my spotter told me he was diving hard inside and the next thing I know it’s mayhem. The frustrating part is we had made our pit stops, our car was strong and we get hit by a lapped car.”
The collision would see Beauchamp turned around on track, another car climbing over the hood of his Dodge and doing enormous damage to the car. Beauchamp would fight to the finish and manage to score a tenth-place result.
