Auctions America Auburn Fall Spotlight: 1932 Auburn 12 Phaeton
At a time when most car companies considered body design to be unimportant, E.L. Cord’s Auburn Automobile Company was setting new standards. With talented designers like Gordon Buehrig and Alan Leamy, the company was able to hold its own in an otherwise disastrous Depression-era market, proving once and for all that a great design sells cars.
Shown at the famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2009, this Auburn 12 Phaeton was restored in an attractive color combination and it has been upgraded with Salon trim pieces that include chrome inserts under the windows, Salon door handles, and polished stainless trim on the hood louvers. Stunning in two-tone blue with a matching blue canvas top it is nicely complemented by a matching blue leather interior and Wilton wool blue carpets.
The collector car world will celebrate one of its longest running automotive traditions during the upcoming Labor Day weekend when thousands flock to Auburn, Ind., for Auctions America by RM’s third annual Auburn Fall auction, Thursday, Aug. 30, to Sunday, Sept. 2. More than 1,200 classics, hot rods, exotics, muscle cars and more, each carefully-reviewed by America’s leading collector car experts, will cross the block at the historic Auburn Auction Park.
