ALMS: Second Robertson Ford GT Hits the Track

Murry, team optimistic for new car’s Petit Le Mans debut

There are many, many storylines for this year’s running of Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA 2. There’s Audi v. Peugeot, the ALMS championship chase, the North American debut of Porsche’s 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup… you could go on.

But one that should hearten many fans is the addition of a second Ford GT-R for Robertson Racing. The team, operated out of Dick Barbour Racing’s Road Atlanta shop, rolled out the new car for the first time Saturday for testing. As one would imagine, optimism is high in the Robertson camp heading into the last race for the 2010 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón championship.

“Everyone here is very excited for it. This has been a lot of hard work by the team to make this happen,” said Murry, who will drive the newest Robertson Ford – running on E85 – with Anthony Lazzaro and Rob Bell in an all-pro lineup. “Hopefully we’ll have a good week. This car has the same settings as the other. We are still finding a base for it because this is the first time it has ever turned a wheel.”

Murry, who has been teaming with the husband-wife duo of Andrea and David Robertson, was the GT2 pole-winner in last year’s race. Perhaps no driver in the paddock knows Road Atlanta as well as Murry, who has been coming to races at the circuit since the mid-1970s. His first time on the track was in a Formula Ford school in 1981.
