By Auto News Log • October 11th, 2011

Samuel Hübinette used Mopar power to claim the top spot in qualifying for the Formula DRIFT season finale at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway on Oct. 7–8. Hübinette’s teammate Dean Kearney was 14th in qualifying to also make the Top-32.

In the opening round, Hübinette faced off with Patrick Mordaunt picking up the win to move on to the Round of 16. Kearney was also victorious in the first round, as he downed Ryan Kado.

Hübinette had a thrilling duel with No. 16 qualifier Chris Forsberg in the second round, with the contest going into a “One More Time” overtime battle. Hübinette would fall in the extra frame, while Kearney, who was paired against No. 3 qualifier Tyler McQuarrie, also bowed out.

“We finished the year up very strong by qualifying No. 1,” said Hübinette. “It feels good to end the year on a strong note. Both my Dodge Challenger and Dean’s Viper were strong all weekend. We have a great team here and I am really looking forward to 2012.”

The event wrapped up the season for the Mopar-powered drifters, with the series award banquet capping the year on Sunday, Oct. 9. For more information on Formula DRIFT, visit http://www.formulad.com.
