Burleson, Texas native Austin Williams no doubt made the day of the hometown crowd at Texas Motorplex, taking the Stock Eliminator win in his 1972 Plymouth Duster at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals on Sunday, Sept. 26.

“We just got the car about a week ago, and it’s freaking awesome,” said Williams, who notched an 11.04-second pass at 111.36 mph to defeat Slate Cummings in the final. His car is powered by a Mopar 340 engine. “It’s pulling from 1,000 ft. on and it’s just dead on every time. I can’t complain about the Mopar. It’s Mopar or no car!”

The victory was the third NHRA National event win for the 20-year-old Williams and his second this year. He also scored the F/SA victory in Stock Eliminator class eliminations. Other Mopar-powered class eliminations winners in Stock were Paul Teuton in his Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak (H/SA), Michael Colaluca in his 1963 Belvedere (A/SA) and Bob Miller in his 1974 Dodge Challenger (G/SA). Colaluca’s class win came over NHRA drag racing legend Don Garlits, who competed in his Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak at Dallas.
